Welcome to the Update Page for Briona
It's been a wild ride for the last few months. Getting a call on August 4 that Briona was getting a new heart was life-saving, but also life-shaking. In a moment, our lives went from normal to anything but normal. Then, 18 days later, Briona's sister, Haddie came into this world and our family. There was so much going on and we were completely out of our comfort zone.
That's when we got a call from Steven's Hope for Children. They knew we needed a place to call home during Briona's recovery. Our family was able to get so much help from them, it made the journey bearable.
Even though Steven's Hope helped with housing and food and gas while we stayed in Loma Linda, our other responsibilities kept accumulating. And, Steven's Hope is helping once again through their Raising Hope Project. You can do so much my family and other families that need a hand up at a critical time. Please, consider making a donation to the Raising Hope Project on this page in honor of Briona. $10, $25 or more really adds up and will do wonders in helping pay for items like transportation, insurance, co-pays, prescriptions, helps families of kids with serious conditions with housing, food, clothing and much more.
Below, you'll find recent updates on our journey. We'd love to hear back from you, too.

My Personal Web Log
Having a rough beginning to a new year
Things didn't start out so well this year. Briona is losing weight and the doctors want to see her once a week again. This means more commuting for us and more time away from home. Last week our car took a turn for the worst and is now in the shop it looks like the repairs will cost us $400 dollars. We are still hopeful and doing what we can. We hope you will remember our family this year and share our story as much as you can. Thanks for being a part of our family.

We are almost to Christmas. Life for Briona will never be the same. Constant medications and doctors visits. She is to young to recognize sickness and because of that can't go to school. Carla is now the care taker which leaves finances to me. We moving forward one day at a time and are excited to see what is next for us. We appreciate your support.

It's like we're starting over
Late last week, the doctors said Briona was doing so well, we could go home. Oh, happy day!! Being so near to the hospital was a big relief. We are thankful for our new friends at the hospital and at Steven's Hope. We couldn't have made it this far without the help of everyone. While our Steven's Hope home was great, we are so, so thankful to be home.
At times, the changes and challenges we face now seem so overwhelming. We didn't realize the financial impact this would have on our family. But we know that God will guide us through this portion of the journey. So, it's one step, then another. Carla is now a full time mom and a care giver on top of that. That lead to the realization that a car for Carla to take the kids to the doctor and other places is a critical necessity. We are praying about being able to get a modest, safe van that will suit our family needs.
In the meantime, we are embracing our first full week of being a united family and hearing the new heartbeats in our lives.

Briona is doing better each day.
It seems like the doctors are beginning to get her medication leveled out. It has been a speedy 3 months that seems like a lifetime if that makes sense. We started with a phone call for a new heart and uprooted ourselves from Yucca Valley to Loma Linda. We have split our lives in two so that we can be here for our precious little one. With that comes the expenses. It hasn't been easy to leave job, house, and church family to relocate to a new area. It definitely hasn't been easy on our bank account either. The previous credit card debt we had been working so hard to fix is now making a steady climb again. Things might have been a little different if we could have only focused on Bri, but we also have our brand new daughter Haddie who is now 2 months old. Doctor bills are starting to roll in. Insurance is amazing and we are thankful for it but we keep getting hit with $60 here. $175 there, and $115 over here. It all adds up. I have begun working at the Joshua Springs Thrift Store again 3 days a week. The small paycheck there will begin to take over my child support payments again and help with our rent increase. Carla and I are doing what we can to get through this and we are thankful for the Lord and we are thankful for all of you and your consideration in this. Steven's Hope has been a huge blessing in helping us this far. We Praise God.
